The authorities recently disclosed this new initiative ahead of the fifth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games. This program aims to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for athletes, tourists, and residents. It is part of the wider ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan’, a campaign focused on decreasing tobacco use and substance abuse throughout the region.
According to the official directive, “Smoking and spitting tobacco in these locations are strictly forbidden and will be considered a punishable offense.” The order has instructed the Senior Superintendent of Police in Baramulla, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority, and other officials to enforce this policy rigorously.
What Is The Khelo India Winter Games?
Tobacco-free zone has been established ahead of the Khelo India Winter Games, one of India’s most awaited sports events. More than 1,000 athletes are expected to compete in various events, including alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, snowboarding, and snowshoe racing.
In terms of dates, the Khelo India Winter Games have been postponed due to inadequate snowfall, according to a post from the J&K Sports Council. They stated that a new review will be conducted once the snow conditions improve and revised announcement will be made accordingly.
