Green Card System Introduced For Char Dham Yatra 2026: All You Need To Know

Char Dham Yatra 2026

The Char Dham Yatra in 2026 is set to commence on April 19, marking the opening of the Yamunotri and Gangotri temples. This holy pilgrimage has four sacred destinations: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, all located high in the Himalayas. If you’re planning to do the Char Dham Yatra for 2026, there’s an important update. In Uttarakhand, a new “Green Card system” for commercial passenger vehicles has been introduced to facilitate a safe and smooth journey during the Yatra. Transport Minister Pradeep Batra launched this initiative in Haridwar district.

The Green Card system aims to guarantee the technical safety and fitness of vehicles used during the pilgrimage. It provides vital vehicle information, especially useful in emergencies. Vehicle owners can easily apply for the Green Card online via the Transport Department’s website and pay the required fees. Following a technical inspection at their local transport office, the Green Card will be issued.

How To Apply For Green Card For Char Dham Yatra 2026

To travel through the Char Dham region in Uttarakhand, commercial vehicles must follow specific regulations to ensure safety and legality. They are required to obtain a Green Card, which confirms that all necessary documents are in order, including a fitness certificate, road permit, proof of tax payment, vehicle insurance, and a pollution control certificate.

To get a Green Card, visit the Uttarakhand State Transport Department’s official website. You’ll need to enter your vehicle registration number, driving license information (which should have a Hill Endorsement), and details on your trip duration – ranging from 3 days for one Dham to 10 days for four Dhams. You will also need your Pilgrim Group ID and a list of passengers.
