If you’ve watched the movie “Dil Chahta Hai,” you probably have visited Goa multiple times, or at the very least, it’s on your travel list. Goa is renowned for its pristine beaches, lush nature, and charming alleys and its rich culture and delicious food. Additionally, the state offers a variety of water activities. One of the most popular water activities in Goa is paragliding; however, this activity has recently been suspended. A week following a paragliding mishap that resulted in an accident, the government suspended all paragliding activities across the state. You can just read on to learn more about this.
The Director of Tourism, Kedar A. Naik, announced the Suspension of paragliding activities. He stated that all forms of paragliding, both motorized and non-motorized, are to be halted across the coastal region until further notice. Additionally, the Department of Tourism will thoroughly review all existing registrations linked to paragliding under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982, to ensure they meet the necessary safety regulations.
This decision to suspend paragliding services follows a tragic incident in which a 27-year-old tourist from Maharashtra and a 26-year-old pilot lost their lives during a paragliding accident in Querim, North Goa, on January 18. During the flight from Keri plateau, a cable broke, causing them to lose control, strike rocks, and fall from a significant height.
In connection with this mishap, law enforcement has taken the owner of an adventure sports business into custody for allegedly conducting paragliding activities without the necessary permits or a valid license. The tourism department confirmed last week that it had not issued any permissions for paragliding at the Keri plateau.
