Fanaa: A Tale Of Love Torn Between Passion And Patriotism

Fanaa

Certain films can have a profound impact on us, whether through their music, storyline, filming locations, performances, or storytelling prowess. One movie that consistently appears on such lists is Yash Raj Films’ Fanaa. Starring Aamir Khan and Kajol in lead roles, along with Rishi Kapoor, Tabu and Kirron Kher in supporting roles, Fanaa is a film that charms with its stunning locations. The compelling narrative, exceptional performances, and beautiful background score ensure that this movie will leave a lasting impression. And at unstumbled, we are committed to providing honest reviews of films. During the long weekend, I had the chance to watch Fanaa for the first time, and here are my candid thoughts on it.

Fanaa Release Date, Cast And More

“Fanaa,” a romantic thriller that was released in 2006, was directed by Kunal Kohli. The story unfolds in Delhi and Kashmir, centring on Zooni, a blind Kashmiri woman portrayed by Kajol, who falls deeply in love with her tour guide, Rehan, played by Aamir Khan, unaware of the dark secrets he holds. The film has a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes and is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.

What is The Movie All About

In the first half of the film, you will be treated to melodious tracks like “Chand Sifaarish” and “Desh Rangila,” setting the stage for a thrilling second half. The story begins with Zooni Ali Beg traveling to Delhi with her friends and dance instructor to participate in a Republic Day performance. While in the city, she meets Rehan Qadri, a charming tour guide who shows her group around the iconic sites of Delhi. As they explore, a romantic connection blossoms between Zooni and Rehan.

However, before she returns to her home in Kashmir, Zooni agrees to undergo surgery to regain her eyesight at Rehan’s suggestion. On the day of her operation, an explosion shocks the city, and she receives the devastating news that Rehan was among the casualties.

In a surprising twist, it is revealed that Rehan is alive and has been working undercover with the Independent Kashmir Front (IKF), a terror organisation. He staged his death to keep Zooni safe and to maintain the secrecy of his mission. Years later, their paths cross again, leading to a dramatic revelation as Zooni discovers that Rehan is living a double life. To find out what unfolds next, you’ll need to watch the film.

Where Is The Movie Shot

The filming locations of “Fanaa” might surprise you. Although the story is set in Kashmir, the movie was not filmed there. It was
shot in various places throughout India and Europe, including Poland, Delhi, and Mumbai. The Tatra Mountains in Poland, particularly Zakopane, stood in for the Kashmir Valley due to safety issues. In Delhi, scenes were filmed at sites such as the Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Qutb Minar, Purana Qila, and more. Some parts of the film were also recorded in Mumbai.

Why Should You Watch The Movie

Fanaa is worth watching at least once, especially if you enjoy romance and thrillers, along with stunning locations. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat and explores what one can do and cannot do for love. The acting, cast, and dialogue are sharp and powerful. However, the only downside is its length – the first half feels a bit stretched. Nevertheless, if you’re a fan of Bollywood and want to see a classic, be sure to add this movie to your list.
