Dine and Dish - Bastian, Mumbai

Are you someone who is a heartfelt foodie? Are you too excited to try out the most premium dining spots but aren’t sure where to begin with? Well, start your foodie adventure with Mumbai’s hottest, celebrity favorite restaurant – Bastian! In the Dine And Dish series, we try out food from various restaurants and recommend (honestly) whether you too should dine there or not. Keep reading about our Bastian adventure.

About Bastian, Mumbai

If there’s one restaurant that’s frequented by some of the most sought-after celebrities in India, it has to be Mumbai’s Bastian. With locations in Bandra, Dadar, and Bangalore, and plans to expand to Pune and Goa, the restaurant is one of the most acclaimed in India’s fine dining scene. Founded in 2016 by Ranjit Bindra, who also serves as the CEO, Bastian owes much of its success to the significant contributions of its co-founders, actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Kunal Jani, who have played a key role in its growth.

To try out their food and services, we decided to visit Bastian – At The Top. Located in Dadar, the restaurant is more than just that – it is a premium luxury dining space, equipped with a lounge, club, and pool, all atop the 48th floor of the Kohinoor Square.

First Impressions: Yay Or Nay?

From the outside, the place was screaming ‘bougie’ and we saw some guests being denied entry due to their ‘casual’ clothing. As we stepped inside, it felt like we had reached Dubai or straight onto the sets of Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet’s Dune. The rustic, sand-crusted interiors beautifully spread throughout the space, giving it the look and feel of an exotic cave. While the space receives a solid ten for its ambiance and decor, we were skeptical of how the food would turn out. ‘Expensive, bougie places often have mediocre food’ – will this myth stay true for Bastian, Mumbai?

The Food And Service At Bastian Mumbai

We started with the Bastian Sour and the Heat Cooler, both of which were quite refreshing. After enjoying a sip of these refreshing drinks, it was time to dive into the food. But, the prices on the menu were as high as the restaurant is in Mumbai. Finally, we placed our order and prayed to the food gods for a delicious and rewarding meal.

First, we were served the Aburi Miso Salmon Sushi, followed by the Pork Ribs and the Crispy Chicken Bao. The sushi was well seasoned and loaded with the goodness of salmon. Overall, a filling dish to try out. Moving onto Pork Ribs, we were unsure because they are a tough game to crack. To our pleasant surprise, the meat was cooked to perfection. The juicy, succulent meat fell right off the bone, and when paired with their sauce, it was heaven on a plate. The third and final dish we tried was the Crispy Chicken Bao. Honestly, we found it to be quite average, and the dish kept us wanting for more. Swap it out for a McDonald’s Fillet-O-Fish burger and you wouldn’t know the difference, strangely.

We didn’t try desserts, but a lot has been said about the viral ‘pull me up’ desserts at Bastian. If you happen to visit, make sure you end your meal with a delightful dessert and a drink or two for company.

The service here deserves some appreciation. From waiters to receptionists, the staff at Bastian is welcoming and helpful.

Price At Bastian, Mumbai

For the food we tried, the total bill ended up at INR 6,200. While it may sound like a lot, the place is definitely worth a visit, especially for its ambience, drinks, and of course food. We recommend you order more of their seafood and red meat offerings and avoid chicken. The place has plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, so we recommend exploring them too. And, don’t forget to dress up to the occasion!

Average price for two: INR 4,000 excluding alcohol
