Delhi Govt To Roll Out AC Bus Tours Covering All Must-See Tourist Spots

Delhi

Delhi, the capital city of India, is famous not only for its delicious street food and bustling shopping areas but also for its renowned landmarks such as the Red Fort, Lotus Temple, and Qutub Minar. While exploring these attractions is a must for visitors, weather conditions and limited connectivity can make it a bit difficult to see everything. Luckily, if you’re planning a trip to Delhi soon, the Delhi government is all set to introduce a new initiative. They are revamping their local tourist bus service with full-day tours on air-conditioned electric buses, covering key sites like the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Kartavya Path, Prime Minister’s Museum, National War Memorial, and Lotus Temple.

Although the exact launch date is still to be confirmed, we know that a recent meeting of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) approved this new plan, according to a senior official from the tourism department. The plan involves using DEVI buses that can carry about 30 passengers. Each bus will have a tour guide to share information about the historical sites with the tourists.

Delhi AC Bus Tour Services Will Likely Start By 15 August

The plan also includes providing an audio translation system, so tourists can understand the guide in their preferred language. For example, a tourist from Tamil Nadu who doesn’t speak Hindi will be able to listen in Tamil, as explained by the official.

Initially, the service will run as a trial with 3 to 4 buses, and based on how well it goes, more buses and additional sites may be added to the route. There are also plans to develop more tourist routes, as stated by an officer.

Reports suggest that the new tourist bus service could begin by August 15. The department is currently discussing ticket prices. They are considering a charge model, whether it will be a single-day fee or a revenue-sharing system. Ticket prices are expected to be around INR 500 for adults and INR 300 for children aged 6 to 12. Tourists will be able to book these buses for a full-day trip, with each stop lasting around an hour or more.
