Pink Saheli Smart Card

To enhance the daily commute for women and the transgender community in Delhi, the government has introduced a remarkable initiative. The ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’ allows women and transgender individuals to travel for free on all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched this initiative on Sunday, November 2nd. The program aims to encourage the use of public transport. It also aims to promote safety and improve accessibility for women and transgender people throughout Delhi.

Women and transgender individuals aged 12 and older can now enjoy free travel on DTC and cluster buses in Delhi. This initiative, announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on November 2, aims to empower the community, lower transport expenses, and promote public transport over private vehicles.

The free travel scheme allows eligible individuals to travel without fare using a specially issued card. To apply, passengers can register online on the Delhi Transport Department’s official website or visit specific DTC counters throughout the city. After registration, they will receive a Pink Saheli Smart Card that offers unlimited free travel on all buses included in the program.

This move aims to enhance travel safety and accessibility for women and transgender individuals while promoting the use of public transportation. Gupta emphasized the importance of this step in making travel easier and more convenient. The new Pink Saheli Smart Card will replace the current pink paper tickets. The card will feature the user’s photo and name and will allow top-ups for use on systems like the Delhi Metro.

Officials have already completed the necessary back-end integration for the smart card system, with card readers installed in most buses. The phased rollout is expected to begin soon, with the first batch of cards on its way to users.
