India is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, filled with various traditions and rituals. Among these, Chhath Puja stands out as one of the most revered festivals, dedicated to honoring Surya Dev (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya. This festival embodies values of gratitude, purity, and devotion. In 2025, Chhath Puja will be celebrated from October 25 to October 28. While Patna, Bihar, is known for its grand Chhath celebrations, Mumbai is also making arrangements for the occasion. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will set up ponds at about 67 locations on October 27 and 28 to help manage gatherings at beaches and natural water bodies.
To create a safe and clean atmosphere, 148 artificial immersion ponds and tanks will be established. Additional facilities will include first aid services, designated areas for Nirmalya Kalash disposal, cleanliness measures, and 403 changing rooms to provide convenience for devotees.

In addition to establishing artificial ponds, the BMC has implemented a streamlined process to issue permissions for Chhath Puja organizing committees and mandals. Each ward will have a designated officer to work with the police and traffic authorities.

Among the 148 artificial immersion sites, the highest concentrations can be found in Ghatkopar with 44 ponds, followed by Dahisar with 22 and Kandivali with 16. Other locations are also equipped with artificial ponds and ensured water supply.
When it comes to Chhath Puja celebrations in 2024, BMC had set up ponds in 39 locations last year, and this year the BMC has expanded both the sites and the number of artificial ponds to better support the festivities. Additional staff and equipment will be deployed for cleanliness and waste management at all Chhath Puja locations.
Amenities such as Nirmalay Kalash, temporary restrooms, 403 changing rooms, tables, chairs, as well as sufficient lighting and police presence will be in place. Traffic management and local officials will work together to ensure public safety and organize vehicle parking, while provisions for drinking water and first aid will also be available. Officials will conduct regular inspections to ensure that all arrangements are properly executed.
