ToggleBewakoofiyaan Plot, Cast And Storyline
Bewakoofiyaan, directed by Nupur Asthana and released in 2014 by Yash Raj Films, is now available on Amazon Prime Video. It tells the story of Mohit, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, and his girlfriend Mayera, portrayed by Sonam Kapoor. The couple believes that love is all they need, overlooking the importance of money.
However, things take a turn when Mohit loses his job due to a recession, leading to financial struggles that affect their relationship. He loses not just his job, but also his comfortable lifestyle and, ultimately, Mayera. While Mayera starts supportive, her desire for a materialistic life creates tension between them.
What Goes Wrong?
As the film unfolds over two hours, it lingers predictably until reaching a traditional happy ending. The film attempts to convey the idea that consumerism is empty and that love and relationships are what truly matter. Yet, it raises the question: Is love really the only thing that counts in life?
Bewakoofiyaan has an interesting premise, and Ayushmann Khurrana shines as Mohit. However, it leaves you questioning its purpose and message. Much of the film revolves around Mayera’s father, portrayed by Rishi Kapoor, who puts Mohit through rigorous checks, demanding documents like his PAN card and Aadhaar card. Lastly, despite Khurrana’s strong performance and real frustration, the script fails to evoke sympathy for unemployed individuals.
Where Is Bewakoofiyaan Shot?
The film was primarily shot in Delhi, Gurgaon (now Gurugram), and Dubai. Key locations included Gurgaon’s corporate area, reflecting the characters’ upscale lifestyles, and the historical Humayun’s Tomb in South Delhi, adding cultural depth to the storyline.
Should You Watch It?
Honestly, this one can easily be missed; Bewakoofiyaan isn’t a must-watch in 2025. However, if you choose to watch it, you’ll definitely appreciate Ayushmann Khurrana’s performance.
