Bengaluru metro connectivity to tech hubs in the city is set for a drastic expansion, expanding along a 72-km corridor by 2029. The metro network, run by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), will have a 68-km corridor connecting Kadugodi Tree Park to Kalena Agrahara and a 4-km stretch connecting Jigani and Indlavadi Village. Set to revolutionize the city’s commute by 2029, here’s what you need to know about Bengaluru Metro’s longest line extension.

The BMRCL has finished a feasibility study for a 68-km corridor that will link Kalena Agrahara on Bannerghatta Road to Kadugodi Tree Park near Whitefield. This line will run through Bannerghatta, Attibele, Jigani, Sarjapur, Dommasandra Circle, and Varthur Kodi, drastically improving Bengaluru metro connectivity to tech hubs.
Introsoft Solutions Pvt Ltd, a Delhi-based firm, has prepared a draft feasibility report that covers the alignment, traffic demand, land acquisition, cost estimates, ridership projection, and number of stations. A final feasibility report is expected to be submitted to the state government by the end of October 2025, following which the BMRCL will work on the detailed project report (DPR).
The DPR typically takes about a year and requires clearances from both the state government as well as central government. In total, the process could take up to two years. So a broader timeline for the project can see the construction beginning by 2029 and take up to five to ten years for completion.

Bengaluru Metro Expansion: Stations And Connectivity
The proposed Bengaluru metro expansion will consist of both underground and elevated stretches, so it will be a technically challenging project. It will reportedly have over 50 stations, however, they’ll be spaced further apart than usual due to the region’s current development plan.
These stations will connect key residential and commercial hubs, including key neighborhoods like Jigani, Sarjapur, and Bannerghatta. The 72-km corridor will also connect SWIFT City, a 1000-acre integrated township for startups and workshops rising in the Sarjapur Area.
This ambitious project is a part of a 210.9 km masterplan that the BMRCL is preparing, consisting of six extensions and two new lines. This will eventually bring the city’s planned network to a whopping 467.69 km, on par with Delhi-National Capital Region metro’s planned 467 km.

International Sports Complex At Indlavadi, Surya City Phase 4
The State Cabinet of Karnataka recently approved INR 2,350-crore international sports complex in Indlavadi, Surya City Phase 4. BMRCL has suggested a metro link to the international venue and consultants are conducting additional studies to further incorporate the metro link with the 68-km corridor.
This Namma Metro sports complex link, approximately 4 km in length, will branch off from the sports complex towards Jigani, where it will connect with the 68-km long metro corridor. This will in turn give rise to a Namma Metro 72 km corridor, connecting not just major tech hubs in the city but also the proposed international sports complex.
Speaking of the international sports complex, it will have a capacity of about 80,000 attendees. It will facilitate 24 indoor and outdoor sports as well as an auditorium with a 30,000 seating capacity. The Housing Department has been given the task of preparing its detailed project report (DPR).
Summing Up
While no concrete dates have been set for the project, an estimated timeline shows that work on the Namma Metro 72 km corridor will reportedly begin by 2029. Connecting major tech hubs as well as the proposed international sports complex, the metro corridor will boost connectivity in Bengaluru drastically. As the region undergoes more and more development, the metro line will see increased ridership and will mark a new era in the public transport system in Bengaluru.
