Auto And Taxi Fares To Increase In Mumbai From 1 February

Auto And Taxi Fares

If you’re residing in Mumbai, you’re likely familiar with how many of us depend on taxis and auto rickshaws for daily transportation. While we’ve all used these services at some point or another, some of us depend on them regularly. If you count yourself among those frequent users, we have some important news to share. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has announced an increase in auto and taxi fares. The last adjustment in fares occurred in October 2022, and now, starting February 1, 2025, there will be an increase of Rs 3. Read on for further details.

From February 1, auto and taxi fares throughout Mumbai will rise. After this adjustment, rickshaw users will now pay Rs 26 instead of Rs 23, while taxi fares will increase from Rs 28 to Rs 31. Additionally, the amount for blue-and-silver AC taxis will be revised to Rs 48 for the first 1.5 kilometers, up from Rs 40.

And we know, this is not the best news you want to hear, but there’s more to this. The new fare rates can only be applied once the meters have been recalibrated. Taxi and auto drivers have time until April 30 to recalibrate their meters. Until the recalibration is complete, the existing fare structure will remain in effect until April 30.

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, there are approximately 450,000 auto-rickshaws. In fact, around 300,000 of them operate within the city of Mumbai. Additionally, there are about 15,000 taxis on the city roads.
