Air India, Indigo, And SpiceJet Suspend Flights Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

Following the increased tensions between India and Pakistan, spurred by the Indian Army’s attacks on terrorist camps in Pakistan, several Indian airlines, including SpiceJet, Air India, Air India Express, and IndiGo, have issued travel advisories and suspended or diverted multiple flights across India.

On Tuesday, May 6, Air India announced it would suspend all flights to and from several cities, including Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot, until noon on May 7 due to security concerns.

The airline also mentioned on X that two international flights bound for Amritsar would be redirected to Delhi, expressing regret for the inconvenience.

Furthermore, Air India Express announced that several flights would be affected, including cancellations for routes to and from Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, and Hindon in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, until midday on May 7.

In addition, IndiGo announced on X that airports in Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar would remain closed until further notice, impacting both arrivals and departures. The airline advised passengers to adjust their travel plans and check their flight status before heading to the airport.

SpiceJet also shared a travel advisory on X, stating that due to the ongoing situation, airports in parts of northern India – including Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar are closed until further notice. Consequently, flights for departures and arrivals may be significantly affected.

Akasa Air Suspends Flights To And From Srinagar 

Akasa Air announced that, due to the current regional situation, Srinagar Airport is closed for civilian flights, leading to canceled flights to and from Srinagar.

International operations have also been impacted. Qatar Airways temporarily suspended flights to Pakistan due to the closure of Pakistani airspace. The airline stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and prioritizing the safety of its passengers and crew.

These disruptions occur amid a tense security environment, particularly following recent reports of Indian military operations against terrorist camps in Pakistan, which have resulted in increased military readiness along the border.
