Air India Express, a budget-friendly airline and a subsidiary of Air India, operates approximately 500 flights each day, connecting 39 domestic and 16 international destinations. With a fleet of over 100 aircraft, the airline plans to transition to a fully all-economy model by April 2026, eliminating business and premium economy seats from its fleet of 60 airplanes.
The airline’s managing director, Aloke Singh, announced during a media briefing that they will be reconfiguring the cabins of their two- and three-class aircraft to adopt an all-economy layout by the designated date. Specific Boeing 737-8 models will be converted into all-economy configurations.
This strategy aligns with the low-cost carrier’s goal of providing affordable air travel as demand surges in India’s aviation sector. The shift to an all-economy seating arrangement is expected to enhance operational efficiencies, lower maintenance expenses, and boost passenger capacity.
Currently, out of the 41 Boeing 737-8s in operation, 36 include eight business class seats, while two offer four. Some also feature 18 economy plus seats. This variety in seating has created challenges in delivering a consistent travel experience. With the rise in demand for budget travel, this transition aims to improve accessibility for passengers and optimize fleet usage, giving Air India Express a competitive edge.
Air India Express serves major cities across India and operates flights to international destinations such as Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Doha, and more. The airline offers ‘Gourmair’ hot meals, comfortable seating, and a range of exclusive loyalty benefits, all delivered with a unique sense of Indian warmth. Additionally, it features an award-winning digital experience on its mobile app and website. With plans to transition to an all-economy model, we are sure that the airline will make air travel more accessible and affordable for travelers.
