Ahmedabad Is All Set To Get India’s First 16-Storey Vertical Railway Station

Vertical Railway Station

Ahmedabad, a city in Gujarat, is set to transform its transportation landscape with the introduction of India’s first 16-storey Vertical Railway Station. This redevelopment project is designed to be a comprehensive multimodal hub, integrating conventional rail, the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, metro services, and road transport all within one vertical structure. The station will feature enhanced connectivity and modern waiting areas. It will also include commercial spaces, promising a more streamlined and efficient travel experience upon its completion.

The new Vertical Railway Station is set to rise above platforms 10, 11, and 12 at the Kalupur railway station, marking a significant milestone as India’s first large-scale vertical rail hub. This impressive 16-storey building will feature areas for passengers, waiting lounges, shops, offices, and extensive connections to other transport modes. By embracing a “vertical station design,” it aims to efficiently accommodate increasing passenger traffic. This approach maximizes the use of limited urban space.

Vertical Railway Station Is Expected To Be Ready By July 2027

It aims to create smooth connections for travelers by linking directly to the Kalupur Metro Station in Ahmedabad. This will facilitate easy transfers between metro services, high-speed trains, regular trains, and road transport. Enhancements will include wider access roads and better bus services. Additionally, there will be elevated areas for passenger movement to minimize the hassle of reaching the station from various locations.

Futhermore, it will play a key role in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, India’s first bullet train route. Once operational, trips between the two cities will take just about two hours, a significant reduction from the 7-8 hours needed currently. The hub in Ahmedabad will connect to metro lines and regular train services, making travel efficient.

Lastly, this new station will feature modern amenities such as improved waiting areas, clear navigation systems, and shopping spaces. It is expected to be completed by July 2027. And once ready, it will boost Ahmedabad’s connectivity and setting a precedent for similar transport hubs in other cities.
