Wondering if you can transit through Singapore without a visa on an Indian passport? Well, the answer is yes: you can actually transit through Singapore without a standard entry visa. But this is possible only under two scenarios: either by qualifying for the conditional 96-hour Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) or by staying strictly airside on a through ticket. What are these scenarios, and what must you check before booking? Let’s understand:
Singapore Airport Transit Rules
Visa-Free Transit Facility
If you wish to leave Changi Airport, stay at an external hotel, explore the city, or visit Jewel, you will have to clear Singapore immigration. You can enter Singapore with an ordinary Indian passport only if you qualify for the Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) without a pre-approved tourist visa.
In order to use VFTF, you must hold a long-term residence pass or a valid visa issued by at least one of the eight countries below.
Canada, Australia, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, New Zealand, the USA and the UK.
From the date of your arrival in Singapore, the qualifying visa must be valid for one whole year. You must have a confirmed onward departure ticket leaving Singapore within 96 hours.
Your itinerary must show a transit from or to a third country or a simple round trip. Example: Mumbai – Singapore- Tokyo or Delhi – Singapore – Delhi.
You can use a VFTF only on one leg of a round-trip journey. This means it can either be inbound or outbound, not both. If your qualifying visa is a Single Journey Visa used once, you can use it for a return journey only under certain conditions. The conditions are:
You are going back directly to your home country.
You fly directly to the country that issued you the Single Journey Visa.
Since the Single Journey Visa was used, you have not returned to your home.

Airside Transit
If your flight connects through Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and you do not cross the passport control boundary into Singapore, then you do not need any transit or visa facility. When you arrive at Terminals 1,2,3, or 4, make sure you remain strictly within the international transit lounges. The terminals of Changi are seamlessly connected airside via shuttle buses and Skytrain.
When you leave India, you must check your bags all the way to your final destination. You must have your onward boarding passes. If you do not have them, you must be able to collect them without clearing immigration from an airside transfer desk inside Changi.
If you wish to visit Jewel or see the Rain Vortex, you will have to clear immigration. Once you clear immigration, the airside transit rules do not apply.

Things To Check Before Booking
Before you book a flight transiting Singapore on an Indian passport, make sure you verify these things:
1. Single PNR or Self-Transfer Tickets
The biggest risk factor is luggage handling while booking a transit flight. If you book two separate tickets or combine two low-cost carriers, you might have to clear immigration to collect your luggage and re-check it. Your departure airline will surely deny boarding if you come without VFTF eligibility or a pre-approved Singapore visa.
If you booked on an interline partners or full-service carrier, your bag is checked directly to your final destination.
2. Check your eligibility for the 96-Hour VFTF
From a valid entry visa from one of the 8 approved countries to visa validity, make sure you check it all for the VFTF.
3. The Schengen Rule
Note that visas issued by Germany and Switzerland are valid for VFTF. The ones issued by countries like France, Italy, or Spain do not qualify.
4. Understanding The Logistics
The standard airside transit is strictly limited to 24 hours. If you wish to wait longer, you must clear immigration under a tourist visa or VFTF. And if you are willing to enter the landside by submitting the mandatory SGAC (Singapore Arrival Card) online at least 3 days before landing.
Pro Tip: If you do not meet the VFTF conditions and your itinerary needs immigration clearance, you can apply for a standard e-visa. This can be done via an authorized visa agent. Make sure you do that before purchasing non-refundable tickets.

Summing Up
