The gates officially reopened on the 13th of October, Tuesday, for the wildlife season of 2026-2027. It opened to soaring demand, spurred on by the upcoming Durga Puja. As such, in order to accommodate this high demand, the Assam Forest Department has significantly scaled up operations. They have increased the fleet of permitted Jeep safari vehicles from 20 to 36. Here are some other important changes that visitors should know of.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Reopens

The inauguration of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary for the season was done by the Environment and Forest Minister of Assam, Jayanta Malla Baruah. Success Of Anti-Poaching Conservation

With Pobitora joining Manas National Park, which reopened on October 2, and Kaziranga National Park, which reopened on October 3, all three major wildlife sanctuaries in the region are now fully operational for visitors.

One of the many claims to fame that this wildlife sanctuary has is that it boasts the densest population of rhinoceros in the world. It has an estimated concentration of 16 rhinos per square kilometer. This is a huge achievement for the state and its anti-poaching and conservation efforts. This includes joint vigilance between forest personnel and local fringe communities. The combined efforts turned Assam from having daily poaching threats to a historic era of zero rhino poaching.
