Sri Lanka Beaches In October

Because October is a transitional month between Sri Lanka’s two main monsoon seasons, the conditions of the ocean vary from coast to coast.

East Coast

The East Coast beaches are the best choice during the month of October.

Pasikudah: This beach is known for its shallow bay and offers calm ocean waters, especially during monsoon transitions. You can go for swimming, kayaking, or relaxing on the shallow sandbars. Since the peak summer crowd comes in the months of July and August, the beach is less crowded.

Trincomalee and Nilaveli: The ocean waters during early to mid-October are calm, with warm temperatures. The mornings here are dry, which makes it perfect for swimming. You can also go for snorkeling around Pigeon Island.

South Coast

Weligama: This beach in October offers mixed weather with improving sea conditions towards the end of the month. It has fewer crowds than its peak months, which makes it perfect for relaxing.

Galle: This beach in October offers rough seas, unpredictable weather, and frequent rain showers. It is surely a budget-friendly and quiet spot to visit during the shoulder month.

Hiriketiya: This beach sits at the tail end of the southwest monsoon season. It offers a budget-friendly atmosphere, which is quieter, with stronger swells and lush green scenery. October may bring occasional tropical downpours, so be ready.
