Taj Mahal Palace Ranks On No. 30, Climbs Up Eight Ranks
The Taj Mahal Palace has earned the coveted 30th rank on the The 50 Best Hotels 2026 list. As per the official The 50 Best Hotels 2026 list, the landmark hotel has climbed from No. 38 in 2025 to No. 30 in 2026.
Announced in Paris on September 15, 2026, the ranking has the Taj Mahal Palace as the only Indian hotel in the list.
The hotel first opened its doors in 1903. It was built by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata and became the first hotel of what later emerged as the Taj group. Over the years, the hotel has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Mumbai, right opposite the historic Gateway of India.
The hotel, as per its official website, has 243 rooms and 42 suites. With several room categories, it allows guests to choose between city-view rooms and those overlooking the Arabian Sea. The suites are much larger than ordinary rooms in the hotel. The Grande Luxury Suite, Signature Suite, and the Tata Suite are much more luxurious than ordinary rooms and has plenty of amenities, including private balconies.

Which Hotel Emerged As Rank No. 1?
While The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai ranked on No. 30, the number 1 spot was taken by Rosewood Hong Kong. The hotel has taken the top spot for the second consecutive year.
Capella Bangkok took the second spot while Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River took the third spot.
Dubai’s Atlantis The Royal took the fourth spot while Passalacqua on Lake Como stood fifth. The top 10 list has been dominated by hotels in Asia, particularly those in Thailand and Hong Kong. The Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai is the only Indian hotel to feature in this coveted list.
