Travelers must note that paper applications submitted before October 1, 2026 will be processed under the existing system. Applicants who’ve submitted paper applications before October 1, 2026 need not make any changes to their application.

The decision to make New Zealand visa application online will apply to Transit Visa and several other visa categories, including:

Only under exceptional circumstances will paper applications for these visa categories be accepted. Applicants who believe that they have a valid reason to use a paper form should contact Immigration New Zealand to discuss their application and confirm whether an exception applies.
On the contrary, the decision to make New Zealand visa application online will not apply to the following visas:
- Partner and Child of Military Visitor Visa
- Partner and Child of Student Visitor Visa
- Partner and Child of Worker Visitor Visa
- Partner and Child of a New Zealander Visitor Visa
- Trafficking Child Victim Visitor Visa
- Temporary Retirement Visitor Visa
- Refugee Claimant Visitor Visa
Until further notice, applications for these visas will continue to be accepted through existing channels, including paper applications. While Immigration New Zealand may phase out paper applications for these visas later, it has not confirmed an immediate change to these visas.
