Author’s Note

My favorite Azerbaijani dishes are the Lulya kebab and Qutab. If you’re someone who loves rolls and frankies, do not forget to try Qutab. The meat filling is flavorful and juicy. Lulya Kebabs, too, are very juicy and tender when made properly. The spices complement the meat so well that they’re almost addictive.

Restaurants, too, are very good in Baku. My personal favorites are Shirvanshah and Sumakh. Their service is very good, and the food is quite affordable for the quality you get. The portions here are generous too. You won’t have to order many dishes to satiate your hunger.

Summing Up

Baku in Azerbaijan is one of the most effortless places in the world for muslim travelers. You can sightsee to your heart’s content and then rest assured that most of the restaurants you visit are halal. Food-wise, Baku is a mutton-lover’s paradise. Many of the food items utilize sheep tail fat that adds richness, depth, and flavor to a dish.

Furthermore, a lot of the food here will seem very familiar to Indians. For instance, Qutab is very similar to Mughlai paratha. It is a thin paratha-like bread that is stuffed with minced meat. The flavors are truly very comforting. It thus beautifully marries caucasian culinary heritage with ubiquitous presentation.
