Where To Stay In Rishikesh For The Best Monsoon Experience? Riverside Areas, Cafes & What To Know

Where To Stay In Rishikesh

There are few destinations in India that can parallel the experience of staying in Rishikesh during the monsoon season. The emerald-green landscape of himalayas transform into an even more vibrant green, with the roaring currents of Ganga turning a muddy brown owing to the sheer force of the water. This sheer force of water, which is so magnificent to witness from a distance, also creates certain risks. River rafting, for instance, is completely prohibited during the monsoon season. Heavy rains also create a risk of frequent landslides. Under such circumstances, choosing where to stay can be crucial for your journey. This unstumbled guide talks about the best areas to stay in the monsoon season in Rishikesh, along with cafes and restaurants to visit.

Author’s Note

My monsoon trip to Rishikesh was illuminating, to say the least. If you, too, want to spend a few days in Rishikesh during the monsoon season, I have a few tips from my experience that might come in handy for you. First, make sure to always check road updates for the Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh route as well as for the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway.

These routes are frequently plagued by landslides during the peak monsoon season and can delay your journey, especially near Byasi and Shivpuri, if you aren’t careful or plan accordingly.

You should also avoid renting two-wheelers in Rishikesh as the roads can get muddy and slick. We rented a four-wheeler exclusively, and still, the driver had some difficulties navigating the way.

Lastly, make sure you pack waterproof, rainproof, and quick-dry clothes. We made the mistake of not carrying quick-dry clothing, and we suffered. The weather is already quite cold, and then to sit in wet clothes was an added struggle we weren’t prepared for.

Summing Up

Visiting Rishikesh in the monsoon season is as magical as it gets. The vibrant green of the forests paired with the roar of rivers is worth experiencing, especially if you love being amid nature. However, it is equally important to be safe during this season. The areas listed in the article are some of the safest and most convenient places in Rishikesh. If you need to pass the time, you can explore the vibrant cafe culture and visit the establishments mentioned in the list. Remember to stay updated on the weather to avoid getting caught in an unsavory situation, and do not venture into any cordoned-off area.
