Bengaluru To Get India’s Second-Largest Cricket Stadium; All About It

Karnataka is all set to get a massive shift in its sports infrastructure. Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India, is all set to get India’s second-largest cricket stadium. It will be located in Anekal and will be called Anekal International Cricket Stadium. The foundation stone for this stadium will be laid by the Chief Minister of the state, Siddaramaiah, on May 23, 2026. However, already, the project is facing a number of challenges.

This new stadium will stretch across 75 acres of land and will have a capacity of a whopping 80,000 people. The total cost of the project is estimated to be INR 943 crore, and it is seen as a replacement for the ageing M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The project will be managed by the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) and is estimated to be completed in 36 months.

What Are The Challenges Facing The Project?

Last year, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium saw a devastating stampede that claimed the lives of 11 people. This was mainly because the stadium lacked buffer zones required to manage large numbers of people.

Additionally, the stadium will also see certain logistical problems as connectivity to the stadium is not very good. The stadium is located on the outskirts of the city near the Tamil Nadu Border. The metro, too, ends several kilometers short of the site. As such, connectivity may be a challenge.
