Rishikesh, a charming town in Uttarakhand, is nestled in the Himalayan foothills alongside the Ganges River and is famous for its spiritual and wellness offerings. Recently, the town reached a milestone as SkyHop Aviation prepares to become India’s first commercial seaplane operator. On April 6, 2026, SkyHop Aviation successfully performed a test flight at the Ganga Barrage in Rishikesh. Founded by Avani Singh, this initiative supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
India’s aviation industry is looking into innovative connectivity solutions to enhance access to remote areas. Seaplane operations offer a practical option, enabling flexible travel routes and shorter journeys to destinations accessible by water.
SkyHop Is An Aviation Company Founded By Avani Singh
SkyHop aims to improve accessibility to regions where traditional airports may not be feasible. The company believes that seaplanes can shorten travel times and connect distant parts of the country more effectively.
In its initial phase, SkyHop plans to link five islands in Lakshadweep with each other and the mainland using a 19-seat aircraft. They are also exploring other regions in India where such services could enhance connectivity.
As per the reports in The Economic Times, a modified De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft, previously operated by the now-defunct Fly Big airline, has been upgraded for seaplane operations after necessary modifications.
