India is celebrated not only for its rich cultural heritage but also as a destination for some of the world’s most lavish properties. And now, in a significant recognition, three Indian hotels have secured spots on TIME’s list of the World’s Greatest Places 2026. In fact, the Oberoi Rajgarh Palace Resort has achieved the impressive second position on TIME’s list of Greatest Places to Stay.
Each year, TIME curates nominations for various destinations – which can be hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, and more – through its global network of contributors and via an application process. The objective is to highlight venues that provide new and remarkable experiences, culminating in a list of 100 extraordinary destinations for the year.
TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026: Three Indian Properties Make It To The List
The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace, which has bagged second spot on the list, is situated above a picturesque rain-fed lake in the Maniyagarh Hills of central India, and is housed within a beautifully restored 350-year-old building linked to the Bundela dynasty. Since its opening in November, this 65-room resort dazzles with its frescoed interiors, private pools, gardens, and terraces, all while offering captivating experiences nearby.
In addition to this luxurious gem, Mharo Khet in Jodhpur has come 25th on the list. Unlike the typical majestic desert fortresses of Rajasthan, Mharo Khet presents a contemporary yet intimate retreat that stands out in the arid Thar Desert region. Co-owned by Rajnush Agarwal and Vedika Prasad, this property features 10 suites set amid a 40-acre sustainable farm, with cooking classes and foraging activities for guests.
Lastly, the Shakti Himalaya Prana Lodge in Kumaon, Uttarakhand, has bagged the 41st spot on the list. It offers a unique experience, requiring guest access on foot. Opened in October 2025, this seven-suite haven is part of Shakti Himalaya, emphasizing trekking while supporting local communities. Set at an elevation of about 7,000 feet, each handcrafted suite provides breathtaking views of the Himalayas along with the comforts of upscale hospitality. Guests enjoy all-inclusive stays, featuring custom menus and daily guided hikes, blending adventure with luxury seamlessly.
