Gateway Of India To Get Infrastructure Boost With Modern Jetty Development

Gateway Of India

Mumbai, often referred to as the city of dreams, is celebrated not only for its vibrant energy but also for its renowned landmark, the Gateway of India. This iconic site attracts thousands of visitors each day, and now, in an effort to enhance tourism, the Maharashtra government is set to establish a modern jetty at this famous waterfront. Ports Development Minister Nitesh Rane announced this initiative, recognizing the significant tourist traffic that characterizes the area.

The government has contacted central authorities about getting the necessary permissions and safety measures for Jetty No. 5. This topic was discussed in the legislative assembly by Rane in response to a question from member Ashok Patil, with input from Legislators Varun Sardesai and Prakash Surve.

Rane highlighted the goal of making Mumbai a leading international spot for tourism and maritime activities. This plan involves improving jetty management, introducing modern boats, building marinas, and enhancing passenger facilities.

Gateway of India

The Gateway of India often gets very crowded due to the large number of visitors. To help with this, new jetty facilities are being planned to reduce congestion and improve safety. Currently, there are five jetties at the site, with the first four managed by the Mumbai Port Trust for regular passengers. Jetty No. 5 is expected to focus on private boats and larger yachts, which will alleviate some of the crowding at the other jetties.

Additionally, there are concerns about how revenue will be shared for Jetty No. 5, leading the state to ask the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways for a review. The government is also encouraging a shift from traditional wooden boats to modern options, offering financial support to local fishermen and boat operators while promoting environmentally friendly electric vessels.
