Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates India’s Fastest Metro In Meerut

India’s fastest metro service, the Meerut Metro, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 22, 2026. Operating on cutting-edge infrastructure alongside the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), the Meerut Metro features a maximum operational speed of approximately 120 kilometers per hour. It can cover its entire route in just 30 minutes.

During the inauguration ceremony at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station, PM Modi not only launched the Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram but also took a ride on the metro to engage with students and passengers. The event marked a significant milestone as PM Modi dedicated the entire 82-kilometer stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and opened additional segments of the RRTS, which is designed for speeds up to 180 kilometers per hour.

The Namo Bharat system aims to link key urban centers like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut to Delhi, dramatically reducing travel times. The new metro service operates in conjunction with the RRTS along several segments. This creates a unique dual-system approach for public transit in the region.
