It will consist of 20 stations – six of which will be underground and the other 14 elevated. Mumbai–Navi Mumbai Airport Metro To Accommodate Over 10 Lakh Passengers Daily By 2031
The plan indicates that the average distance between stations will be around 1.9 kilometers. The total land needed for this project is about 30.7 hectares, with an estimated cost of INR 388 crore. Overall, the project’s budget is set at INR 22,862 crore.
CM Fadnavis mentioned that while the metro is projected to be completed in three and a half years, the official timeline is five years. This project will be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Both the state and national governments will contribute 20% each to the viability gap funding, with the remaining 60% coming from a private consortium. CIDCO will spearhead the construction of this metro line, taking over from the previous arrangement managed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The new Metro Line-8 will include key stations like LTT, Vashi, and both terminals of the Navi Mumbai Airport. It’s anticipated that by 2031, the line will accommodate over 10 lakh passengers daily.
