Lucknow To Get 6-Lane Expressway Boost, 5 Districts To Benefit

Lucknow To Get 6-Lane Expressway

Residents of Lucknow can look forward to improved travel to the surrounding districts soon. The National Highway NH-24, which links Lucknow with Sitapur, is undergoing significant upgrades. The Indian National Highway Authority (NHAI) has announced plans to expand this roadway from four lanes to six, enhancing the travel experience along a stretch plagued by heavy traffic and congestion.

The completed expansion will cut the approximately 80 to 90-kilometer journey between Lucknow and Sitapur to only one to one and a half hours, a significant reduction from the current travel time of two to two and a half hours due to constant delays and traffic jams. This decrease in journey time will arise from the increased lane capacity and the improved flow of vehicles.

Currently, the NH-24 accommodates over 40,000 vehicles daily, causing long queues and traffic, particularly during peak hours. Recognizing the rising traffic concerns, the NHAI has prioritized this project to address the congestion.

The upgraded highway will also improve direct access between Lucknow and five neighboring districts: Hardoi, Sitapur, Unnao, and Barabanki, as the Lucknow Development Authority prepares to add this significant project to its Strategic City Report (SCR).

NHAI’s decision to widen the highway is a proactive measure to increase vehicle speeds and reduce traffic jams. Adding two new lanes is projected to improve the highway’s functionality and ease the strain on commuters who depend on this essential route.

Fortunately, the six-lane construction will not require additional land acquisition, as there is adequate space available along both sides of the road, minimizing project costs. The NHAI has completed the necessary surveys and is working on the Detailed Project Report (DPR), with plans to commence construction within one to one and a half years. Without this expansion, experts warn that traffic congestion and accident rates could worsen in the future.
