Why And How Halloween Came To Be Celebrated
Halloween’s origin traces itself back to the Celtic festival of Samhain. This festival marked the end of the harvest and summer season, anticipating the arrival of the winter and the new year.

In the West, as well as many parts of Asia, Halloween is a major celebration. However, while it might be an official holiday in most parts of the West, it is not an official holiday in India.
Among the traditions that are part of Halloween, the most popular is the ‘trick-or-treat’. Children (mostly) dress up in fun, quirky costumes and go from door to door in their neighborhoods shouting ‘trick or treat’ each time they greet their neighbors.
Their neighbors are then supposed to either treat them with candies or trick them with harmless pranks and mischievous antics.
Another famous tradition associated with the festival is carving pumpkins in spooky designs. Called ‘Jack-o’-lanterns’, these pumpkins have their roots in Irish folklore.
The folklore derives from the story of Stingy Jack who managed to outsmart the devil but was cursed to roam the Earth with only a piece of burning coal to light his way.
