The inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in December 2021 has significantly improved accessibility and facilities for pilgrims. As of September 2025, over 25.28 crore (252.8 million) devotees have visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, reflecting a remarkable surge in both domestic and international tourism.
Urban Ropeway Project
In a bid to modernize urban mobility, Varanasi is set to launch India’s first urban public transport ropeway. The 3.8 km aerial transit system, comprising 148 gondolas and five stations, is expected to accommodate up to 1 lakh (100,000) passengers daily. The project, costing ₹815 crore, is scheduled for completion by December 2025.
Dharmashala Construction
A new 10-storey dharmashala is under construction on Sigra-Rathyatra road. Built by the Tamil mercantile community, Nattukottai Nagarathars, the ₹60 crore facility will feature 140 rooms, including luxury suites, a dormitory, banquet and dining halls, solar power, and parking for 200 cars. The inauguration is expected on October 31, 2025.
