Ola, Uber & Rapido Get Green Signal For Bike Taxis In Mumbai – Here’s What You’ll Pay

Mumbai boasts a great public transport system, yet during peak hours, the overwhelming crowd can make it nearly impossible to rely on it. Additionally, using taxis and auto-rickshaws often isn’t always practical due to surge pricing, traffic and high demand, making it challenging to secure a ride. Fortunately for Mumbaikars, bike taxis have appeared as a solution, now officially approved by the authorities. The State Transport Authority (STA) in Maharashtra has issued provisional licenses to the parent companies of popular ride-hailing services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido to operate bike taxis in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, setting a minimum fare of INR 15 for the first 1.5 kilometers.

The STA’s decision was made during a meeting, where it was stated that these companies must apply for permanent licenses within a month, adhering to the guidelines outlined in the Maharashtra Bike Taxi Rules 2025. Companies such as ANI Technologies (Ola), Uber India Systems, and Roppen Transportation Services (Rapido) are among those that have received this approval, marking a significant change in Mumbai’s transport landscape.

Bike Taxis In Mumbai To Cost INR 10.27 Per Kilometer

The Maharashtra state government introduced new regulations for bike taxis in 2025 through a government resolution (GR). Officials announced that the State Transport Authority (STA) has set a minimum fare of INR 15 for rides up to 1.5 kilometers. For distances beyond that, passengers will be charged INR 10.27 per kilometer.

This fare structure was approved by the STA, led by state Transport Secretary Sanjay Sethi, during a meeting on August 18. These fares will be applied statewide, according to a regional transport office (RTO) representative.

The fares are based on a formula from the Khatua panel, which is also used to establish rates for autorickshaws and traditional taxis. Additionally, the transport authority plans to reassess the bike taxi fares in one year. Compared to black-and-yellow taxis and autorickshaws in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, bike taxi fares are lower.
