Vietnam, a captivating Southeast Asian country, is known for its stunning coastlines, picturesque markets, serene Buddhist pagodas, and vibrant urban life. It has also become a favored destination for Indian tourists. And if you’re planning a trip to Vietnam in 2025, there’s an important update to keep in mind. Starting December 1, 2025, the country will introduce a new system for airport procedures. Most travelers will bypass traditional airline check-in counters and instead use biometric check-in and digital identification through the VNeID app or self-service kiosks.

This initiative, as outlined in Directive No. 24 signed by the Prime Minister, aims to modernize Vietnam’s infrastructure, enhance security, and offer a smoother digital travel experience. With the new policy in place, passengers flying without checked luggage will be required to complete their entire airport process digitally, from check-in to security and boarding, using biometric verification. Only those with checked bags or who qualify for special assistance will continue to use staffed counters.

Vietnam Will Extend The Biometrics To Metro Stations As Well

Vietnam is welcoming a significant digital transformation in its travel sector, establishing itself as a frontrunner in implementing advanced technology for travel services. By the end of October, biometric systems will be deployed at all airports, integrated with the national digital ID platform to optimize traveler experiences and enhance security protocols. This initiative is a part of a wider effort to modernize travel services for both domestic and international travelers.

The rollout will also include metro stations and parking areas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, making travel more convenient. With automated gates replacing traditional check-in and security processes, one can expect shorter wait times as they move seamlessly between different modes of transportation.

To prepare for this transition, travelers are encouraged to register their biometric information through the VNeID app, which will serve as a primary app for accessing various digital services related to travel. The full implementation of this policy is set for December 1, marking a shift toward automated, tech-driven travel experiences. This improvement reflects a global trend toward improved travel efficiency and safety, solidifying Vietnam’s status as a modern destination for both tourists and business travelers.
