Himachal Pradesh is all set to host its first-ever eco-friendly Tribal Festival in Keylong, Lahaul and Spiti, set to take place from August 14 to 16, 2025. This festival aims to celebrate the rich tribal culture while emphasizing sustainability through a zero-waste initiative. It is a collaborative effort supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the North Zone Cultural Centre, TRIFED, and the Himachal Pradesh Government. During the three-day event, there will be a variety of activities designed to engage both residents and tourists.
The Tribal Festival in Keylong has kicked off its pre-festival events, which began on August 2, 2025. These pre-festive activities are designed to engage the local community and include various fun initiatives such as tree planting drives, poetry competitions, a poster and slogan contest for kids, yoga classes, knitting challenges, and traditional sports tournaments.
The main celebration is set to take place from Thursday, August 14, and will focus on showcasing indigenous arts and crafts, traditional foods, sports, music, and dance. Additionally, the festival places a strong emphasis on reducing ecological impact. A highlight of the festivities is expected to be the Mr, Miss, and Mrs Lahaul & Spiti pageant, aimed at promoting inclusivity and celebrating local culture.

What To Expect At The Tribal Festival In Keylong
In addition, the festival will implement a strict zero-waste initiative over three days. Attendees are urged to avoid single-use plastics, bring reusable cloth bags, and take advantage of refillable water stations. Furthermore, cleanliness will be supported by the presence of Swachhata volunteers who will be stationed throughout the event.
The event is set to take place at Police Ground in Keylong and provides a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the auténtic experience of Himalayan tribal culture, while prioritizing both heritage and sustainability.
From performances by Firdaus Band, Kishan Verma, and NZCC on August 14, to a musical chairs game on August 16, and women’s tug of war on August 14 and 15, as well as a cycle marathon and other activities, this event is definitely going to be enjoyable and worth attending.
