Nude Beach In Goa? Here’s What You Really Need To Know!

Nude Beach In Goa_ Here's What You Really Need To Know! Feature Image

The relaxed, laid-back atmosphere of Goa is a haven for those seeking a break from the ordinary. There’s something in the air in Goa that makes you want to let loose – flip flops on, worries off, and maybe…clothes too? While it might sound absurd, nude beaches in Goa were quite commonplace, at least in the 70s and 80s. While the culture of nudity on Goa’s beaches has died down today, there are a few beaches where you can still bare it all (pun intended) at your own risk! Is there really a secret sandy strip when you can skinny dip under the warm sun? Let’s dive into it!

Are There Nude Beaches In Goa?

First things first, public nudity is illegal in India! So, public displays of your bare bodies are illegal as well as highly frowned upon in the country. While it is illegal, some religious communities in India allow nudity/partial nudity in their rituals and customs. However, these customs are kept mostly private, within the communities.

Along with that, there are a few secluded beach strips in some parts of Goa where visitors can strip down and enjoy the sun-kissed waves. Even here, you cannot legally do so – you will have to do it secretly away from the public eye.

There are a few private beaches as well where you can go skinny dipping, but these are mostly owned by exuberant hotels, private properties, and big corporations.

With mostly open-minded foreign visitors frequenting these beaches, Ozrem and Arambol beaches had become hotspots as nude beaches in India. However, as these beaches gained more popularity, it became almost impossible to maintain the seclusion and safety of these beaches.

How Can You Have A Fun Time At A Nude Beach In Goa?

Like we mentioned earlier, there are no nude beaches in any corner of India where you can officially go after removing it all. However, with a little exploration and little risk, you can enjoy your private time at one of the beaches in Goa.

As South Goa is comparatively less crowded and commercialized, we are sure you’ll have plenty of isolated and less-crowded beaches here. These include Nuem Beach, Butterfly Beach, Xandrem Beach, Tolivia Beach, and a few others. Even on these beaches, you must find well-isolated and secluded sections of the beach and make sure that no one interrupts your privacy.

You can go sunbathing, skinny dipping, or swim in the expansive beaches. Alternatively, you can also host an intimate beach picnic, read your favorite book, or jam to good music. If you’re comfortable being nude around your close friends, you can also invite them to hangout with you.

Moreover, you can also connect with fellow travelers, solo backpackers, and enthusiastic nudists who’re willing to join you on your little adventure. However, when you’re hanging out with strangers, remember to be careful!

Minimal Clothing: Well, That’s Mostly Permissible

While stripping down completely is illegal in the country, there’s no such rule that prevents you from dressing in beach-appropriate clothes. Technically, you can dress in minimal, beach-appropriate clothing on all beaches of Goa. But then there comes the issue of people randomly ogling at you!

You can dress up the way you want, be it scanty beachwear or boho fits, at most beaches in North Goa and some popular beaches in South Goa. No limitations, no restrictions, and no rules barring you from dressing up the way you want.

Essential Tips To Keep In Mind On Beaches

  • Do not record footage of people relaxing or lounging on the beach without their permission.
  • If you spot someone going skinny dipping on a beach, respect their privacy. Do not record them on camera or directly approach them without their permission.
  • If you too wish to explore the more secluded beaches of Goa, we recommend visiting South Goa over North Goa. Some extreme corners of North Goa too have secluded beaches, but you’ll have to explore them!
  • Apply copious amounts of sunscreen and moisturizing lotions to protect your skin from sun damage.
  • Carry sunglasses, hats, water bottle, and a parasol to further protect yourself from the bright sun.
  • Do not play loud music or engage in activities that might disturb others on the beach.

Summing Up

Nude beaches – well, they do not officially exist in India. However, there are many beaches in Goa where you can fully flaunt your summer body. While Ozrem and Arambol were once popular as nude beaches, these beaches are no longer what they once were. However, with just a little more exploration and a tad bit of risk-taking, you too can have a fun time on the beach, without any clothes.
