As we grew up, we heard various stories about the allure of hill stations. One of the most popular hill stations often mentioned in these stories is Mussoorie. Commonly known as the ‘Queen of Hills,’ Mussoorie is a picturesque destination in Uttarakhand. It is easily accessible by road from Delhi, Dehradun, and other nearby locations, making it a popular choice for quick weekend getaways. However, over the years, the hill station has lost its quaint charm due to overtourism and crowds. To address the issue of over-tourism and protect the essence of the town, the Uttarakhand government has implemented a new rule requiring all travellers planning to visit Mussoorie to register online in advance.
The rule has been in place since August 1, 2025. This online registration system will enable authorities to track visitor numbers, manage crowds more effectively, and improve the overall travel experience.

ToggleWhat To Know About The Online Registration Process For Visiting Mussoorie
The Uttarakhand Tourism Department has introduced a new online registration system for visitors to Mussoorie. Tourists are required to sign up in advance, as there will be no registration available on-site. This initiative aims to reduce crowds at popular locations like Mall Road, Gun Hill, and Kempty Falls.

To register, go to the official website and fill in your personal information, including your travel dates, number of companions, and vehicle details, if applicable. After submitting, you will receive a verification code via SMS or email, which you need to enter. Once confirmed, you will get a QR code to save. This code will be needed at entry points, major attractions, and during hotel check-ins to ensure smooth management of visitor flow and services in the area.
A new regulation has been implemented due to the surge in tourist numbers, which doubled from 2022 to 2024. While this rule is intended to help manage the influx of visitors, it may negatively impact last-minute travelers, as they will find it difficult to plan impromptu trips.
