Iconic ‘Van Rani’ Toy Train Back On Track At Sanjay Gandhi National Park

‘Van Rani’ Toy Train

Mumbai is famous for many things, but one standout attraction is the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, located in Borivali. Known affectionately as ‘Mumbai’s Green Escape,’ the park is relaunching its iconic ride: the Van Rani’ toy train ride.

After being out of service for three years due to damage from Cyclone Tauktae in 2021, the beloved ‘Van Rani’ toy train has returned to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP). This eco-friendly train can now carry up to 80 passengers, providing a delightful journey through the scenic 5.5 square kilometers of Krishnagiri Upvan within the park. The return of ‘Van Rani’ is expected to attract visitors from both near and far.

In addition to the reopening of the original toy train, plans are underway to introduce a second open-air toy train shortly, which promises to further enhance the experience for visitors at Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

The ‘Van Rani’ toy train is a beloved part of Mumbai’s charm. After being closed for renovations due to the severe impact of Cyclone Tauktae, it has now re-launched with a fresh, eco-friendly design. Riders can enjoy an 80-passenger capacity, complete with vista-dome coaches, offering panoramic views of the captivating landscape. The renovation, which cost around ₹40 crore, was overseen by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES).

With these exciting developments, officials hope to see an increase in family visits and children flocking to the park. Visitors can look forward to experiencing not just the train ride but also the diverse wildlife and rich vegetation of the area, making a trip to the park a memorable outing for all.
