According to a report from Sakal, the Mumbai Port Authority has completed plans to launch direct cruise routes to Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from Mumbai.
This development is a crucial move to enhance marine tourism in the region. There are also indications that the state government is working on improving infrastructure and expanding maritime routes around Maharashtra. What To Know About Mumbai International Cruise Terminal
The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) began its operations on April 21. This terminal is capable of accommodating approximately 10,000 passengers daily and can service up to five ships simultaneously. It has a draft of 11 meters and can accommodate vessels up to 300 meters in length.
Spanning 415,000 square feet, the facility is designed to handle over 500 cruise ships. It can also handle one million passengers annually, featuring 72 immigration counters. The structure consists of four levels, with the lower floors dedicated to passenger processing and the upper levels reserved for commercial and recreational areas. It includes 22 elevators, 10 escalators, and offers parking for 300 vehicles.
