Great news Mumbaikars! If you rely on trains for your daily commute and wish for improved station facilities, you’ll be happy to know that several Mumbai stations have been upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate these revamped stations on Thursday, May 22.
The upgrade work for Chinchpokli, Parel, Vadala Road, and Matunga stations within the Mumbai Division of Central Railways has been completed within 15 months. The total investment in these improvements exceeds Rs 71 crore, with the foundation stones laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chinchpokli Station has undergone an upgrade costing INR 11.81 Crore. It handles around 36,696 passengers daily. The station now features renovated booking offices and new platform flooring, along with improved drinking water and seating facilities. Additionally, vertical gardens, artistic 3D wall paintings, tensile fabric umbrellas, and beautifully designed staircases have been added.
Parel Station has been upgraded for INR 19.41 Crore. It serves about 47,738 passengers each day. The station now includes a new building, elevated parking, and a modern toilet block equipped with a sewage treatment plant. Extensive landscaping has been carried out at both ends of the tracks. On the east side, a new PCC road and improved drainage have been constructed, alongside vertical gardens on the boundary walls.
Wadala Road Station has received upgrades costing INR 23.02 Crore. With a heavy daily traffic of 1.32 lakh passengers, the station has undergone thorough renovations. New and repaired customer outlet points have been installed along with full platform flooring and drainage improvements. A new toilet block with a septic tank has also been added.
Now, when it comes to Matunga Station, it is known for being India’s first all-women-operated station. It has seen improvements worth Rs 17.28 Crore. The station caters to about 37,927 passengers daily. It now features upgraded flooring and new toilet blocks with improvements for individuals with disabilities. The wooden-arch main building has been restored. Additionally, the station is adorned with a vertical garden, enhanced booking offices, and vibrant 3D wall art to enhance its aesthetics and functionality.
