Saudi Arabia Imposes Visa Ban On 14 Countries, Including India And Egypt

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made significant changes to its visa policies that will impact travelers from 14 nations, including India. Renowned for its sacred locations like Mecca and Medina, as well as its stunning tourist destinations such as Al Ula, Saudi Arabia has imposed a travel ban by halting certain visa issuances to residents of 14 countries. This measure is primarily aimed at managing the influx of visitors during the Hajj pilgrimage season.

Hajj, which is an obligatory pilgrimage to Mecca that every financially capable Muslim must undertake at least once in their lifetime, has prompted these changes. One must note, the suspension of visas does not affect Indian pilgrims who possess valid Hajj visas and are traveling exclusively for this purpose. Those with approved Hajj documentation will still be permitted entry into Mecca and Medina to carry out their religious duties. The restrictions specifically target other visa types to prevent unauthorized individuals from accessing Hajj activities and to alleviate overcrowding concerns.

Saudi Arabia’s Visa Ban Will Be In Place Until Mid-June

This ban will remain in effect until mid-June, coinciding with the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage, which is scheduled for June 9, 2025. The temporary suspension applies to Umrah, family visits, and business visas for the citizens of 14 countries, including India.

The list of 14 countries are:

1. India
2. Pakistan
3. Bangladesh
4. Egypt
5. Indonesia
6. Iraq
7. Nigeria
8. Jordan
9. Algeria
10. Sudan
11. Ethiopia
12. Tunisia
13. Yemen
14. Morocco

Notably, this decision follows the tragic events of the 2024 Hajj season, where more than 1,000 individuals lost their lives. And many of whom were unauthorized participants. The restrictions aim to ensure better crowd management during this critical period.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has announced an indefinite suspension of one-year multiple-entry visas, limiting travel from 14 specific countries to single-entry visas that are valid for 30 days, effective February 2025. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah states that the current travel ban serves as a logistical measure to ensure a safer and more organized pilgrimage experience. The Ministry emphasizes that this decision does not relate to any diplomatic concerns.
