Navi Mumbai Airport, one of the most ambitious projects in the region, is set to launch operations on May 15, 2025 officially. The inauguration is scheduled for April, and the new airport aims to alleviate traffic congestion, providing a smoother travel experience for passengers throughout Mumbai.
Recently, a joint team conducted a thorough inspection of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, consisting of prominent officials such as Vipin Kumar, Chairman of the Airport Authority of India (AAI); Prakash Nikam, Regional Director of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS); and representatives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Adani Airport Holdings (AAHL), and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO).
The inspection spanned two days, beginning on February 24, when officials completed their facility evaluation. A senior official from the DGCA confirmed that the review process was finalized and noted that the airport operator would submit applications for the necessary permits by March 5.
Once the inspection outcomes are finalized, the operator will seek an airport license from the DGCA, paving the way for the upcoming flight operations starting May 15.
Covering an expanse of 1,160 hectares, the Navi Mumbai International Airport will start operations at Terminal One. It can accommodate 20 million passengers annually. The airport features two parallel runways and is designed to be easily accessible by both road and water transport, with reports suggesting that passengers could reach the site in as little as 17 minutes via water taxi.
