The iconic Zara store located in the historic Ismail Building in Fort, South Mumbai, has officially closed its doors. Many fans of the brand have taken to social media to express their sadness after spotting a notice announcing the closure. The store has been a landmark in the area since it opened in 2017. And now, after eight years, February 23, 2025, was the last day the Fort outlet was in operation.

The renowned Spanish fast fashion brand, operated this flagship store, which spanned 51,300 square feet. However, as of February 24, the location ceased operations, leaving customers without their beloved shopping spot. The notice posted on the door simply informed shoppers, “Please be informed that this Zara store will cease operations after the end of business on 23rd February. We will continue to assist you at our Zara stores in Mumbai and Zara.com/in.”
This closure marks the end of Zara’s only standalone store in Mumbai, as the brand typically operates in shopping malls. At its opening, Zara had emphasized a strategy of focusing on fewer but larger stores worldwide, a plan that was in motion even before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zara, owned by the world’s largest fashion retailer, Inditex SA, has been in India since 2010, thanks to a partnership with the Tata Group’s Trent. Although the Fort store has closed, Zara maintains three other locations in Mumbai and Thane, situated in various shopping malls.
