Mumbai, often referred to as Sapno ke Sheher and Filmo ki Duniya is renowned for its iconic Marine Drive, Mumbai local trains, and delicious vada pav, among other attractions. Now, the city has added another feather to its cap! Mumbai has been named the 5th best food city in the world!
This recognition comes from Taste Atlas, the acclaimed global food guide. It recently revealed its list of the 100 best food cities worldwide. While Naples, Italy, claimed the top spot, Mumbai proudly ranks among the elite five. Taste Atlas evaluated 17,073 cities and analyzed 477,287 valid food ratings for 15,478 dishes to compile the rankings, focusing on cities with the highest average ratings for regional and national cuisines.

The top four spots are dominated by Italy, with Milan, Bologna, and Florence following Naples in the rankings. Mumbai stands tall as the only Indian city in this group.
Taste Atlas recommends several iconic Mumbai dishes, including bhelpuri, pav bhaji, vada pav, modak, and ragda pattice. To experience authentic flavors, they highlight legendary eateries like Ram Ashraya, Shree Thaker Bhojanalay, Nawab Saheb, Café Madras, and Baba Falooda.
While Mumbai has earned the reputation of being the 5th best food city in the world, India and its diverse cuisine have also made significant marks on other lists by Taste Atlas.
Indian Cuisine Ranked 12th Best In The World
In the ‘100 Best Food Regions to Visit in 2025’, Punjab ranks 7th, showcasing its rich culinary heritage. Maharashtra secures the 41st position, while West Bengal takes the 54th spot, reflecting the widespread appeal of their regional cuisines.
On the ‘100 Best Dishes in the World to Eat in 2025’ list, India shines with several iconic dishes. Murgh Makhni ranks 29th, while Hyderabadi Biryani claims the 31st spot. Chicken 65 is at 97, and Keema rounds out the list at 100.
Additionally, Indian cuisine ranks 12th in the ‘100 Best Cuisines in the World’.
