When you think of Delhi, what likely comes to mind is its air quality, the Delhi Metro, the magnificent Red Fort, and shopping areas like Sarojini Nagar or Lajpat Nagar. But what if we told you Delhi is now synonymous with something even more impressive? Well, Delhi has earned a spot on the list of the Top 100 Most Desirable Cities in the World, according to reports by Euromonitor.
Euromonitor International’s Top 100 City Destinations Index 2024 offers actionable insights into the performance, appeal, and potential of urban markets worldwide. It evaluates 100 cities using 55 metrics across six key pillars to calculate an overall attractiveness score. These pillars include economic and business performance, tourism performance, tourism infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety, and sustainability. According to the report, Delhi is the only Indian city to make the list, securing the 74th spot – a testament to its rising global stature.
Now, when it comes to first, Paris has been ranked first for the fourth time in a row, followed by Madrid, Tokyo, Rome and Milan, rounding off the top 5 list.
In terms of other cities, New York is the only U.S. city to make it to the top 10 list, securing sixth place. Amsterdam ranked seventh, while Sydney and Singapore took eighth and ninth, respectively. Barcelona rounded off the top 10 list, while London, last year’s 10th-place finisher, slipped to 13th.
Europe dominated the rankings, with nine cities in the top 20, followed by Asia-Pacific with six, North America with two, the Middle East and Africa with one, and Australasia with two. Lastly, the report also predicts that by 2030, the U.S., Turkey, and China will see the highest growth in international arrivals.
